Specialty Lipids
Both, synthetic and natural occurring lipids are important components of liposomes, lipoplexes and nanoparticles. Cationic lipids such as DOTAP Chloride are used as lipidic vectors in gene therapy. Natural phospholipids such as DOPE act as helper lipids. Very often lipids are used which are bearing unsaturated side chains (DOPC, DOPE). For pharmaceutical applications it is essential to work with highly defined, characterized and ultra pure compounds.
Stability is always an issue.
